The Third Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield partnered with the Savannah-Chatham County School System, the STARBASE Savannah Foundation, and Gulfstream Aerospace to open the first-ever STARBASE Academy on an active-Army installation when STARBASE Savannah officially opened on Hunter Army Airfield.

The Department of Defense provides the funding for the staff of the Academy, while the private STARBASE Savannah Foundation, with the help of corporate sponsors such as Gulfstream Aerospace, provides the classroom building and necessary tools for the students to use while learning.

STARBASE Savannah re-opened its doors and held its first STARBASE class of 27 students the week of January 30th -Feb. 3rd, 2023 with Gould Elementary School. The first graduation speaker was Hunter Army Airfield Garrison Commander Lt. Colonel Cuthbertson and in attendance Mr. Travis Mobley, Deputy Garrison Commander and Mr. Will Kenyon COR of STARBASE Savannah.
